Moon Tips!

Timing one's spellwork is an art all in itself. Which month, day, and even the hour can have various influences on the outcome of your spell! So I tend to watch the moon phases…Most calendars indicate the moon phases, anyway the main four phases of the moon are:

New Moon: The new moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle, and means that the moon is completely in line with the sun and the earth. We see a dark sky with no visible moon. It's a time of newness! Spells: new beginnings of any sort, beauty, health, personal improvement or new employment.

Waxing Moon: The waxing moon is the period of time between the new moon and the full moon. Every night, the moon gets a little larger. Any spellwork that requires growth should be done now. Spells: courage, motivation, inspiration, friendship, elemental magic or luck.

Full Moon: Everyone knows a full moon. You can harness the energy of the full moon for about 2 days before or after the night the moon is truly full. Spells: artistic projects, love, romance and making decisions. There are occasionally - as in July 2004 - two full moons in one month (only happens on average every 2.7 years). Then the second moon of the month is called a 'blue moon'. There will be a blue moon in 2018!

Waning Moon: The moon is waning as it gets smaller again, after the full moon. As the moon seems to disappear in the sky, use this time to do spellwork to remove things from your life. Spells: banishing bad habits or ending relationships.

Moon Beauty Tips! The period of a waning moon leading up to a new moon is the best time for detoxifying the body - release all your toxins and refresh! This is the optimum time to exfoliate, use cleansing face packs, sea-salt baths, seaweed wraps, have facials and sweat it out in the sauna. The phase when the moon is waxing up to a full moon is the time to replenish, regenerate and repair your skin with moisturisers and essential oil massages. Give your hair a deep conditioning treatment too, as it's believed that the skin and hair are more absorbent at this time.

Lunar Planting… many gardeners (and Flora, too!) believe that planting during specific phases of the moon brings good results. During the first quarter of the waxing moon phase the moisture level in the soil is at it's highest, so this is when you should plant seeds. This brings rapid germination and growth!
